সৈয়দ ওয়ালীউল্লাহ (১৯২২-১৯৭১) কথাসাহিত্যিক হিসেবে বাঙলা সাহিত্যে মর্যাদাপূর্ণ অবস্থানে অধিষ্ঠিত। উপন্যাস, নাটক, ছোটগল্প নিয়ে তিনি এক নতুন স্বর প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছেন; অস্তিত্ববাদী দার্শনিক তত্ত্ব, মগ্ন চৈতন্যপ্রবাহ তাঁর লেখায় জান্তব হয়ে উঠেছে। আধুনিক কথাসাহিত্যের নতুন প্রাকরণিক বৈশিষ্ট্য বিশিষ্ট অস্তিত্ববাদী, চেতনাপ্রবাহ রীতি-পদ্ধতির সুচারু প্রয়োগের মধ্য দিয়ে তিনি সাহিত্যে নবদিগন্ত খুলে দিয়েছেন। নিম্নবর্গীয় সমাজ থেকে উঠে না এলেও তাদের মনোজাগতিক যন্ত্রণা, দুঃখ, হাহাকার তাঁর রচনায় ফুটে উঠেছে নিখুঁত শৈল্পিক ভঙ্গিমায়। সামাজিক দর্শন ও বাঙালি চেতনায় তাঁর কথাসাহিত্য ভিন্ন মাত্রা লাভ করেছে।
সৈয়দ ওয়ালীউল্লাহ মানুষের জীবন চিত্রণে মনোবাস্তবতার সাথে বহির্বাস্তবতার সমন্বয়ে যে পারঙ্গমতা দেখান তা বাঙলা সাহিত্যে আজও অনন্য। একারণেই জন্মশতবর্ষে এসেও তিনি প্রাসঙ্গিক হয়ে ওঠেন। এ উপলক্ষে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে বাঙলাদেশ ও ভারতের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রাবন্ধিকদের প্রবন্ধ নিয়ে বিশেষ গ্রন্থ ‘জন্মশতবর্ষে সৈয়দ ওয়ালীউল্লাহ’৷
